Posted: 06 Aug 2010 Hello, I'm wondering whether somebody can help me identify these lizards that we've just seen on our garden wall in the middle of London? I'm not an expert as you can probably tell - have looked at your pages and think they might be wall lizards but I'm not sure. Many thanks! |

Posted: 06 Aug 2010 Hi Niki They are indeed wall lizards, Podarcis muralis. In London they are known from the Kidbrooke area in Greenwich; can you let us know if you are in this part of London? It would be of interest to Steve Langham ('vicar' on this forum) from the Surrey ARG and to us at LEHART (London Essex and Hertfordshire Amphibian and Reptile Trust) to know where they are exactly (you can pm me or email us at lehartrust@hotmail.com if you don't want to reveal the location on the public forum) Thanks Will |

Posted: 08 Aug 2010 Hi Niki, That's very interesting. I have no records from North London at all! SE, SW and W London yes....so this could be a new colony. Lots more information on this attractive species here: http://surrey-arg.org.uk/cgi-bin/SARG2ReptileSpeciesData.asp ?Species=Common_Wall_Lizard I'd love to know the location, and to try to work out where they came from. Some of these colonies are very old. Cheers, Steve Steve Langham - Chairman Surrey Amphibian & Reptile Group (SARG). |
